Rep. Steve Stockman's (R-TX) re-election campaign came out with a new bumper sticker:
If Babies Had Guns, They Wouldn’t Be AbortedHere is his twitter feed: 1:44 AM - 12 Apr 13
Dear Congressman Stockman,
After hearing about your new line of bumper stickers, I feel the need to discuss my concern that you did not think this belief all the way through as you normally do.
Please, don't get me wrong. I have a weak mind and my belief may change if I actually see the bumper sticker on an actual car. Those funny lil things always change my mind. Some saying are so cute. I used to be an atheist until I saw one that said 'Jesus Is Real." I was stunned and shocked. I called my wife to tell her what I learned and we now attend Church 5 times per week.
However, a baby with a gun wouldn't do anything. It may actually cause more chaos and harm. To start off with, the fetus hasn't been properly trained to fire a gun. You want to give an untrained person a firearm? Sounds pretty reckless on your part, in my opinion. Also, fetus hands are too small to even hold a firearm, and even if they were able to do so, their coordination isn't developed yet. How would they even be able to aim properly? They don't even have the ability to hold their heads up in order to fire an effective shot.
Not only that, they wouldn't have the cognitive development to know what was going on, let alone, react in an appropriate manner. Now, that's science, which I'm sure is the devil to you, so you may not believe all the evidence that supports that.
Also, a gun in the womb would definitely put the infant and mother in danger. What if it went off by accident? Nevermind, it's only the welfare of the mother at stake. My concern, though, is that since the fetus is a person, what if he is predisposed to a severe mental illness and it develops in the womb? You're still going to give the fetus a gun?! Next thing you know it, his little arm is gonna stick out from the vagina and start shooting random people on the street. Then you're going to have to send the fetus to trial, because that's what we do to humans that commit crimes.
In all fairness, it is a tricky topic with complex answer.
Sincerely, Chris Tomas
